5 Ways to Save Time and Grow Your Blog with Fiverr
If blogging is a side hustle, you might not have a lot of time to money to spend on a blog.
When I first started blogging online I had to make a living in a “real job” while also going to college full-time and also spending time with my fiancée. At a stage when the blog isn’t profitable and when you have so many other competing interests, it’s hard to justify spending lots of time creating content and managing a site.
I think newbie bloggers can relate: we just don’t have the time.
On top of that, budgets can be tight. It’s hard to drop a large sum of cash on an endeavor that might not grow as you’d like in six months, a year, or more. When you have to pay bills, who wants to spend exuberant amounts of cash on your passion project? On a tight budget with minial tasks on the do-to list, where do you even go?
I had these questions as a newbie blogger. Then I heard about Fiverr on the Side Hustle Show, a podcast I once listened to religiously in the early days of my entrepreneurial career. On Fiverr, the “gigs”—jobs and tasks sellers will provide—start at just 5 dollars! Though gigs now typically go for much higher, it’s remarkable the number of sellers who range in the 5 to 20-dollar range. You can stop wasting time with tasks you can get taken care of cheap and quickly with the Fiverr platform.
I’ve used the platform for about 5 years and I’ve been blessed to receive mostly excellent work. I even spent a couple of years as a seller on the platform. In my experience, Fiverr can be beneficial if you understand that you are going to get what you paid for. As a sellar, I had many encounters where buyers would demand an incredible amount of work when I was making like $10. That’s not how Fiverr works. If you want super-quality work, there are other platforms.
On Fiverr, you have to understand that the discounted costs and quick returns don’t always deliver the best results. And there are plenty of scammers on there, though Fiverr has a good rating system (do your due diligence). So though some people dismiss Fiverr completely, I think it can be valuable—if you understand what you are getting. For new bloggers and writers, this can be a good resource.
In honor of Fiverr’s 5 dollar starting price, here are 5 ways you can use the platform to save you time and grow your blog.
1. Build a Better Website
I quickly discovered that I was wasting my time doing things on my blog that weren’t my passion. On one occasion, my WordPress website had a design flaw that I couldn’t fix even after days of tweaking and searching the internet for an answer. Finally, I decided to outsource my problem. On Fiverr, I hired a seller to change some code on the site. Fixed it. I just wish I didn’t wasste my time with all that searching or testing and just hired help at the beginning.
Other sellers on Fiverr offer to build you entire websites (keep in mind, $200 for a whole website is a steal, but the quality might not be the best!) or can help you build a mobile responsive site, set up an e-commerce store, or customize your theme. If you want your blog to shine, you’re going to have to make it look visually clean and modern put also be up-to-date on the tech specs. If you don’t have the skills, someone on Fiverr certainly does.
2. Create Blog Content
I know, I know it seems weird to outsource your writing since you probably like writing if you are a blogger! However, sometimes you are constrained by time or lack of knowledge on certain topics. I love to write, but somedays I’m just not feeling it.
So in some cases it might be good to pay a writer on Fiverr to write an article for you. Often, you retain full rights over their material, so you can sign your name and tweak it to fit your voice. Keep in mind, the sellers I’ve worked with tend to write very simplistically. Many aren’t topical experts so the material feels like they are phoning it in. Yet there are times where spending $5 on getting the bare-bones of the article is worth it, as sprucing it up can be easier than writing from scratch.
Ideally, search for a seller that is proficient in search engine optimization. Especially at the beginning of a blog having content on your site just for the sake of content is a waste of time. You want articles that can easily be indexed by Google—a process that can take six months or more, so get started now!
3. Do Research
Research for posts can get boring fast. Combing through websites and books to gain the knowledge you need to write a post isn’t always appealing to aspiring bloggers. On Fiverr, sellers from around the world will save you time for low prices by researching topics and distilling the information you need. They can compare products, research your target audience, find great keywords for your niche, or gather information on any given topic. Some sellers on Fiverr, even offer to find all relevant Scriptures on a subject you give them! Outsource your research needs so you can focus on the important parts of your blog: creating great content that impresses your audience.
4. Online Marketing
Many bloggers start with the mindset “build it, and they will come.” When you are competing with millions of bloggers, though, this doesn’t work. Especially in highly competitive blogging arenas like mommy blogging or personal finance blogs, the blogosphere is incredibly crowded. To stand out, you need to get online marketing help.
Fiverr sellers can assist with creating ads, social media posts, promotional videos, live events, and marketing strategies. They can deliver to you search engine optimized blog posts, keyword research, or market research. If you don’t want to hire a large marketing firm, you can start with Fiverr.
A warning though, because I’ve made this mistake: Don’t buy backlinks. Don’t do it. Not only does Google hate that with a burning passion, it doesn’t work. There are these really enticing offers where for $5 a sellar will put a link to your site on like 1,000 other sites. Getting other sites to link to your site is a necessary part of ranking on Google, but low-quality random sites that these sellar place your link on won’t do you any good. You need quality links on quality sites that you earned in order to make a difference.
5. Proofread and Improve Content
Even the best writers need a second set of eyes to look over their work. Hire out a Fiverr seller to proofread your posts and website content so you don’t accidentally publish articles with embarrassing typos. Which I do all the time. Sometimes something you thought made perfect sense makes others go “Huh?” Get professional eyes on your work so you can put out the best content on your blog.
Another option is to hire someone to rewrite your content to reflect certain styles, translated into a different language, or just be more interesting. When I sold on Fiverr I actually offered a gig where I creatively rewrote your content. So someone who wasn’t a native English speaker or someone not strong in writing would send a pre-written article off to me and I’d make it sound more natural.
